BIG PUFFA (aka The Generator)

An abstract and playful representation of (re-)generation and creation, BIG PUFFA is the latest large, free-standing sculpture to be created by uckiood.
It measures 6ft 8in (H) x 5ft 8in (W) x 6ft 2in (D) excluding plinth or platform, and weighs approximately 400lb. The form comprises a hand molded, sealed fiberglass shell with a brilliant white polyester resin decorative skin. Within this white skin are embedded around 10000 3/4in, hand cast, highly-colored, translucent resin cylinders. These cylinders create a dazzling effect - small, three-dimensional ‘pools' of color glow and shimmer in the sunlight. This skin is then sanded multiple times to render an ultra-smooth and highly tactile finish.
Organic in shape, BIG PUFFA is a tactile and whimsical work which invites viewers to engage through touch, embrace and physical mimicry. BIG PUFFA’s emphatic pose with arms aloft undoubtedly speaks of unbridled and childlike joy, his/her tiny, simplified head hints at a loss of ego, while the stylized, biomorphic form is reminiscent of an animated molecule which is ever expanding and shifting. This sense of irrepressible transmutation is emphasized by the detail and finish of the sculpture. The three-dimensional, colored cylinders move, merge and collect into pulsating clusters. These clusters - representative of individuals or groups - generate a cellular life force which propagates, spreads and coalesces, creating a dynamic mass of movement throughout the entire form. BIG PUFFA is clearly evocative of the exciting potential of growth wherein people of diverse genders, sexualities, ages, racial and socio-economic backgrounds can come together to connect, develop, learn, renew and thrive. In simple terms, BIG PUFFA is a sculpture which speaks of a future full of possibility and positivity.
